Dr. Suzanne Brumby

International Strategic Advisor for Reentry, Rehabilitation and Reintegration

Dr. Suzanne Brumby is an internationally recognized criminologist, researcher, and criminal justice professional whose work focuses on reentry, rehabilitation, reintegration, and the factors that support long-term desistance from crime. Drawing upon decades of academic research and direct experience within correctional systems, she brings a global perspective to the mission of Mitigation Works.

As International Strategic Advisor for Reentry, Rehabilitation and Reintegration, Dr. Brumby provides guidance on evidence-based practices, correctional policy, reintegration strategy, workforce barriers, and system-level approaches that promote successful outcomes for justice-impacted individuals. Her expertise helps ensure that Mitigation Works remains informed by both research and real-world application as it continues to develop innovative solutions that benefit individuals, families, communities, and public safety alike.

Dr. Brumby currently serves as Associate Professor and Discipline Lead for Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Southern Queensland. Throughout her career, she has dedicated her work to understanding how people successfully transition from justice involvement to productive community life, with particular emphasis on employment, rehabilitation, and the human capacity for change.

Her professional experience extends beyond academia. She has worked with at-risk youth, individuals in detention settings, correctional institutions, offending behavior programs, and justice agencies in both Australia and England. This combination of academic leadership and frontline experience provides a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing justice systems around the world.
