co-founder | lived expereince consultant | mitigation specialist

Joey Nich is a Certified LIFE Coach, mitigation specialist, and lived-experience consultant whose work centers on understanding human behavior, trauma, and the personal and environmental factors that influence decision-making. Drawing from both professional training and lived experience, he brings a distinct and highly relevant perspective to mitigation strategy, helping legal teams and courts more fully understand the life histories behind those who enter the justice system.
As Co-Founder of Mitigation Works, Joey collaborates with clients, families and legal teams to develop comprehensive life-history narratives, identify mitigating factors and contribute to detailed mitigation reports. His approach integrates principles of Thought Reform, Transformative Justice, trauma-informed practice and recovery-based frameworks- ensuring individuals are not reduced to a single moment, but understood within the full context of their lives.
Joey is 100% committed to breaking the stigmas that continue to limit understanding, distort perception, and ultimately interfere with the administration of proper justice. His work is rooted in the belief that when individuals are mischaracterized, systems become imbalanced—and that true accountability and public safety can only exist when people are seen clearly, not labeled indefinitely.
He is also the Founder of The Pathfinder Initiative, a peer-driven model centered on personal development, structured reentry, and long-term transformation. His work emphasizes self-awareness, accountability, and the reconstruction of identity following periods of crisis, addiction, or incarceration.
In addition to his work in mitigation, Joey is a content creator and speaker focused on mental health, recovery, and human development. Across all platforms, his mission remains consistent: to humanize, to bring clarity to complexity, and to help individuals and systems move toward more informed, balanced, and constructive outcomes.
